It appears to need W2k/XP to run it, so I will continue to play with
Anim8or, which is freeware and runs fine on W98se.

This is the only 3d modelling prog I have tried - I'm entry-level and
not able to say how good it is because I can't compare it to anything
else yet, but I did find the 100pp .pdf manual and tuts very well laid
out, lucid and easy to understand, and it's ever so easy for cobbling
together (at my level of expertise) extra spacecraft and satellites for
Celestia (Anim8or exports in various 3d file formats too).
