As most (all ?) programs that create an application list simply give
one a list from the registry (ignoring installed applications that
don't make registry entries) I am not sure why the scanning of the
hard drive would be needed. Unless perhaps to see if any of the
items have been removed ?

I doubt that you are right, but if you remember the name, perhaps
you could let us all know it ?
