Re: Want to convert files to ATRAC

de Thorsten Duhn 04/19/2006 09:11

Hello,

just some things I wanna add:

AFAIK there may be apps to convert to some ATRAC variants,
but mostly uploading to the player does not work on file
system basis, files can be uploaded via USB, but played only
when uploaded with SonicStage. This is the case for my HiMD
Walkman, maybe also for your player.

A link to SonicStage 3.4 download (online installer):
http://www.sonydigital-link.com/DNA/SonicStage/redirect.asp

SonicStage versions before 3.4 wrapped the ATRAC files with
DRM limiting these files to the current installation of
SonicStage. The only way to backup is the included backup
application, which is very limited (back up the complete
database content and restore only back to this complete one,
removing later added content). With version 3.4 this DRM
is stripped down, so copying, burning, transfering is not
limited anymore.

"MP3 Conversion Tool" does convert complete directories of
MP3s to ATRAC and add them to SonicStage database on batch
basis. It does not provide correct order in case, that this
is defined by some kind of playlist, only if it is provided
by ordered (numbered) filenames. But this files can be removed
and reimported with correct order using modified playlists.

.m3u playlists are text lists with filenames line per line,
there may be additional information in extended format in
lines starting with "#"...

Regards,
Thorsten
