There is a forum thread at
http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=65246 called Classics
for Free which lists lots of shareware/commerical games/apps which have
been re-released as freeware by the original copyright owners.
I am a major contributor to the thread & I go by the screen name of
EugeneE3RD on the above thread. I have contributed many links to
commerical/freeware games which have been re-released for freeware by
the original authors. Contains games/apps for Windows, DOS, Amiga, MSX,
C64, et al.
There is also a site called Legal Abandonware which is located at
http://www.student.oulu.fi/~einokesk/legalaw/ which also contains
commerical/shareware games which have been re-released as freeware by
the original copyright owners.
Also check out Liberated Games which is located at
http://liberatedgames.org/ . Liberated Games is also a site about
commerical/shareware games re-released as freeware by the original
copyright owners.
