SOX (Sound eXchange): Freeware command-line audio converter

de Eugene Esterly III 04/30/2006 11:57

Sox (Sound eXchange) is a freeware command-line audio converter for
Windows, Linux & many other operating systems. This audio converter is
one of the best freeware audio converters around. This can convert many
formats such as wave, aiff, au, mp3, ogg & many other formats.

You can also change the sampling rates on files, for example, this
converter supports sampling rates of up to 192 KHZ. It also supports
converting audio into mono, stereo & Quadaphonic (4 channel audio).

Unfortuntely, this converter can't convert from one bitrate to another
which means that you can't convert 8-Bit audio into 16-bit & vise
versa. This prog also can't read/write 24-bit audio files. So if you
need to convert the bitrate of a wave file, I would suggest SoundEngine
Free located at http://www.cycleof5th.com/en/download/index.htm .
SoundEngine Free can also convert the sampling rate of a wave file, it
supports up to 192 KHZ but remember, SoundEngine Free only supports
mono/stereo wave files.
