You can do that for your own messages and threads you have participated
in. Tools->Options->Colors & Fonts->Message Tree. To make colored
posts for other users you can have a colored dot next to their message,
but that only works if the message body has been downloaded.

There are lots of fantastic features in Xananews and if you want more
tips you can e-mail me or I will reply here if you wish. Customizable
keyboard shortcuts are one of my favorite features.
